I have transported some goods including my computer table in May 04 from Pune to Bangalore through Ghatge Patil Transport. Other goods were O.K., but they have broken the table into pieces. At the time of booking the consignment, they said the charges include the insurance coverage and will be transported as Class-A goods. But at the time of receiving the consignment in Bangalore, its not a table, but a pack of broken wooden pieces. Its a particle board computer table, 1½ years old, whose original cost is Rs. 3,000/-. I asked for a compensation of Rs. 1,000/-, but they refused it saying, goods are carried at owner's risk and goods may get damaged due to jerks and jolts in the transport. I told them repeatedly, that its not a damage caused by jerks or jolts. I guess they tried to dismantle the table for some space constraints, and during the process, they were unable to dismantle it properly and broke the table in the middle. And they sent the pieces, not the table. Ghatge Patil Transport (GPT) is shameless in not admitting their fault and giving silly reasons like jerks and jolts and saying the goods won't carry any insurance.
Please advice what I should do to get the compensation from Ghatge Patil Transport (GPT).
